Dohouan

A research base dedicated to community conservation of the Tanoé-Ehy Swamp Forest and the production of agro-socio-ecological data.

Objectives

Promote local initiatives and traditional ecological knowledge.
Conduct inventories and studies in community forests.
Strengthen conservation arrangements and map vegetation dynamics.
Protect threatened mammals.
Provide a field base for researchers studying the forest and surrounding socio-economic activities.

Facilities and research

Botanical and wildlife inventories, socio-anthropological and socio-economic studies.
Development of green value chains for conservation, based on cassava and non-timber forest products.
Hydrobiological and ichthyological studies.

Community-based conservation

The social actions cited include equipment provided to communities, health and school kits, support for local infrastructure, equipment for women cassava processors, and farmer field schools using improved varieties.

It reports nine completed doctoral theses, sixteen postgraduate or master's dissertations, and more than fifteen scientific articles resulting from work at the site.
