CSRS, an institution dear to us all, continues to strengthen its standing. Researchers and staff can be proud of this achievement, which is the result of everyone’s contribution. The transition completed today was prepared over more than six months, and we once again thank the previous management team for its cooperation and support. We are taking up a torch carried for more than six decades, fully aware of the responsibility involved. Leading an institution of CSRS’s stature is a great privilege. The trust placed in us by the Board of Directors, staff, researchers and partners reflects their expectations, and our best way of thanking them is to meet those expectations as effectively as possible. CSRS faces many internal and external challenges. Its long history rests on the commitment of women and men who have worked for scientific excellence and recognized expertise. Overcoming challenges is part of the Centre’s history, and we will continue to strengthen the unity and cohesion of our team. In an increasingly competitive funding environment, CSRS must pursue excellence with even greater determination while maintaining firm control of its resources. Our ambition, expertise and humility must guide us every day. “Research in Partnership for Sustainable Development” still captures the essence of CSRS: scientific research at the heart of our work, carried out with our university, technical and institutional partners to respond to sustainable-development needs. CSRS must now accelerate its progress towards becoming a centre of excellence for West Africa. Its research results, expertise and achievements demonstrate its potential to become a leading resource centre for the subregion and the continent.
